Translucent “candlestick” vessels lay scattered on the floor of one of three burial caves (room B of Cave 1) recently discovered in the Akeldama area. Alongside these glass vessels from the Late Roman period (second to fourth centuries C.E.) were bones bearing evidence of cremation, a form of burial practiced by Romans in Jerusalem.
