Garo Nalbandian

The Herodian street, which lies below today’s ground level at the southern end of the western wall, rises as it moves north and emerges at the far end of the western wall tunnel. These two extant Doric columns flanked the west side of the street. The first-century historian Josephus refers to numerous markets and storehouses in this area, and these columns may have been part of one such commercial plaza.
