Symbols of a common tradition. This menorah appears on the mosaic floor of the ancient Jericho synagogue. Carved menorahs similar to the one in this mosaic, including images of the lulav (a palm branch used in the festival of Sukkot) and the shofar (a ram’s horn used on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur), were found at Chersonesus and Ostia.
