Bronze Age figurine. This 1-foot-tall bronze Canaanite deity—one of the largest of its kind ever found—holds up his right hand in a gesture of blessing. The statue lay in a Bronze Age royal palace at Hazor, where four new cuneiform tablets were also unearthed during the 1996 excavations—raising the hopes of Israeli archaeologist Amnon Ben-Tor that the discovery of a new cuneiform archive may be in the offing.
