Elvis lives. No, it’s not the King of Rock and Roll, but it is supposed to be the great king of the ancient Near East—Alexander the Great. Coins are a popular medium for forgers, thanks to great demand in the numismatic market. Most fake coins are easily identifiable because they have been cast, not stamped. Though the casts often come from molds made from authentic coins, some forgers who prey on tourists don’t even bother to use the right material and will pass off bronze versions of ancient silver coins.
