The limestone cliffs of Qumran (inset photo) serve as backdrop during the last night of a conference celebrating the discovery, 50 years ago, of the first Dead Sea Scrolls. One of the first scrolls found in 1947, the Manual of Discipline, also called the Rule of the Community (background photo), lists the rules of the Jewish separatist sect that may have stashed the scrolls in the caves almost 2,000 years ago.
