“The Heights of David” is the reading proposed by Egyptologist Kenneth Kitchen for a place-name listed by Pharaoh Sheshonq I (called Shishak in the Bible) on a vast victory scene at Karnak. As shown in the detail, the place-name is inscribed in two rings, each of which is surmounted by the head of an enemy. If Kitchen is correct, this would be the third possible reference outside the Bible to ancient Israel’s great king.
