Foreign relations. The architectural details of the palace reflect Hazor’s reliance on northern designs. The use of wooden beams—a rarity in Israel, where wood was scarce and costly—is more typical of the region to the north. In this photo, only the outlines of the long beams are visible in the far wall. The beams themselves disintegrated in the fire that destroyed the palace.
