Mudbricks that once formed the palace’s 9-foot-thick wall remain where they fell after the wall began to collapse during the fire.
The most widely used building material in the ancient Near East, mudbricks were made of a mixture of clay, sand, stone, potsherds and straw. The bricks were formed in a mold and then baked in the sun.
