A bustling port welcomed visitors to the prosperous village of Capernaum in JesusÆ time. A 2,500-foot-long promenade lined the shore. Boats moored along the harborÆs array of paired curved piers, straight docks and triangular piers. The remains of these unusually shaped piers are still visible during dry seasons.
