Avraham Biran

The shattered remains of a car tell of total devastation in the rear of the vehicle, but of much less damage to the front—to driver Avraham Biran’s great fortune. The car’s rear wheels had hit a land mine, killing Chaim Sturman and Aharon Etkin, leaders of the Jewish settlement movement in Palestine, and David Mossenson, a veterinary officer in the British administration; miraculously, Biran emerged unscratched. The mine had been placed by an Arab gang that violently opposed the growing Jewish presence in Palestine.
