From the bottom of the shaft, only a small triangle of light marks the opening at the top. Even with the aid of a rope ladder, the trek down the shaft was a challenge for Shanks and the archaeologists. Climbing back up was even harder, but at least they could rest on the shelves protruding from the sides of the shaft.
