Step right in. Ritmeyer and Jacobson also disagree on the height of es-Sakhra, the rock enclosed by the Dome of the Rock. Jacobson believes that the rock has been cut down by at least 5 feet, while Ritmeyer argues that it has not been cut down at all. The key to their disagreement stems from their differing views of the number and height of various steps leading to the Temple. This drawing illustrates Ritmeyer’s understanding; see drawing of Jacobson’s theory for comparison. You will need to refer to both as you follow Ritmeyer’s detailed argument. The matter is especially important to Ritmeyer because he has written in BAR that the top of es-Sakhra still bears a rectangular indentation where he believes the Ark of the Covenant was placed.
