A wide block of stone divides the stairway of this mikveh found on Mount Zion. To accommodate the community, this mikveh is much larger than those in private homes. The step divider, a common feature in mikva’ot, separated the bathers leaving the mikveh from those entering. Eshel proposes that the absence of this feature on the steps to the Sepphoris pools is an indication that those baths were not mikva’ot.
