The numbers on the photo show the locations of Frei’s 1978 sticky tape pulls from the front of the shroud. Later investigators, using enhanced photographs, discovered what they believe are very faint images on the shroud of plants that grow only in the Near East—further proof, they claim, of the shroud’s authenticity.
