High-tech tools distinguished the renewed excavation at the cave from its predecessors. Perhaps the most imaginative use of modern technology is the team’s work with an endoscope, a piece of equipment usually reserved for medical examinations. The endoscope is a thin and flexible wire with a tiny lens attached to it; the team used it to explore the cave’s crevices. This picture provided by the endoscope shows strands of rope that are inaccessible today.
