The drawing shows the layout of the Arad temple: While the heikhal, or main hall, of the Jerusalem Temple was long and narrow and led to the debir, the holy of holies, the hall at Arad was broad and opened onto the debir from its center. The Arad sanctuary had three parts—a debir, heikhal and courtyard—and featured a large altar for animal sacrifice.
