The new Colosseum inscription was nearly identical to other inscriptions of Titus, such as the coin that reads, IMP TITUS CAES VESPASIAN AVG PM, “Emperor Titus Vespasian Caesar Augustus Pontifex Maximus” (chief priest, an office each emperor held by default).
