P.M. Michèle Daviau

A wayside shrine. More evidence of Moabite religious practices has been found 2.5 miles from Khirbat al-Mudayna. Here, an isolated one-room structure, surrounded by a rectangular perimeter wall, apparently served as a desert cult place. The site was looted in modern times, but in the debris the looters left behind, as well as under an area of undisturbed cobblestones, excavators uncovered an assortment of items, including several broken figurines and a striking limestone figurine head, jewelry fragments, bowls, a model throne or chair, sherds that may have come from ceramic statues and a two-story model shrine.
