Reich says that an otzer, or auxillary water chamber, is not required for a mikveh—indeed, in Jerusalem, the mikveh–otzer combination is rare. Instead, mikva’ot in Jerusalem are often found in pairs, as seen in the foreground and upper left of this photo, taken near the southern wall of the Temple Mount.
