An artifact from el-Ahwat. This Egyptian scarab, created during the reign of Ramesses II (c. 1279–1212 B.C.E.), bears a commemorative cartouche (a pharaoh’s name enclosed in an oval) of a predecessor of Ramesses, Thutmosis III (c. 1479–1424 B.C.E.), who was highly esteemed as a great conqueror and founder of the Egyptian empire in Asia.
