The architect’s sketch. J.M.W. Turner’s watercolor, The Pools of Solomon (see painting), is based on a stark drawing by young Charles Barry, the first English architect to sketch landscapes of the Bible lands. Barry would later design the Houses of Parliament and their famous clock tower, Big Ben.
