Schøyen’s first major acquisition was this illuminated lectern Bible from Geraardsbergen, Belgium, dating to around 1200. He purchased it in 1986. Now, just 16 years later, Schøyen boasts the largest manuscript collection assembled in the 20th century. In addition to beautiful illuminated books, Schøyen’s collection contains examples of some of the oldest writing systems in the world, and even several Dead Sea Scroll fragments.
