The mysterious 15-foot-square stone building discussed by Broshi and Eshel sits at the end of the middle finger (see previous illustration). It was named Point B by Qumran’s first excavator, Roland de Vaux, who initially supposed it was a defensive tower—until he realized its walls were too thin and its location illogical for defensive purposes. For de Vaux, Point B (or Building B) was to remain an enigma.
