After the tumultuous end of the Late Bronze Age (c. 1200 B.C.), the Sea Peoples, among them the Philistines, left their Aegean homelands. Though they destroyed much of the eastern Mediterranean region before settling in Canaan, they weren’t able to penetrate the borders of Egypt.
