Macalester College student Emily Duffelmeyer, kneeling at the bottom of a 9-foot-deep and 5-foot-wide space between Omrit’s inner and outer temple podiums, excavates the fill, or earth, that ancient builders had dumped inside the gap. Artifacts recovered from the fill include pottery fragments and a female figurine, perhaps a goddess.
