Excavating at Salamis in Cyprus, 1952–1974
Peeling away the mound, Cypriot scholar Vassos Karageorghis uncovered not a tomb but an impressive platform at the center of which stood a mini-tumulus. In its basic elements, Barkay notes, the mound at Salamis mirrors the mounds west of Jerusalem.
