Still the best candidate? A structure to the left of the Cave of Pan at Banias, in northern Israel, was most likely the third temple built by Herod to honor Augustus, according to archaeologist Andrea Berlin. Her view accords with that of many excavators and counters the claim by the authors of a recent BAR article, who argued that a building they discovered recently at nearby Omrit was actually the third temple to Augustus.
