Father Louis-Hugues Vincent participated in the Parker Mission, which explored Jerusalem’s water system between 1909 and 1911. Vincent noted that the bumpy sides of Warren’s Shaft would seem to make it impossible to pull water up the shaft. A closer look, though, convinced him that a bucket could be dropped straight down the middle of the shaft. This was no idle insight: The Parker Mission removed mud from the bottom of Warren’s Shaft via buckets lowered from a platform at the top.
