This illustration provides a look inside the church. The left-hand aisle leads to the entrance of the cave where early Christians believed Lot and his daughters lived after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and where the daughters seduced Lot in order to repopulate the world. The altar was at the far end of the center aisle and was set off by a chancel screen. An ambon, or pulpit, stood between the center and left-hand aisles.
