Detail of mosaic from Deir ‘Ain ‘Abata’s basilica church. This mosaic is in the central area of the nave, the front part of the church where the altar stood. Within the cross appear the Greek words telos kalon, meaning “good end”—apparently a wish that our final days be good ones. Above the cross is a stylized chalice.
