Straddling the doorway leading into the main tomb chamber in Tomb I is a pair of cocks, each walking away from the door, with its head turned toward the entrance; one of the pair is shown here as it appeared in the color lithograph. In Greek tradition, the cock was seen as the protector of souls on their journey to the underworld.
