MUSIC TO SOOTH THE SOUL. Instead of animals, the paintings of Tomb II at Marisa depict amphoras and musicians. The musicians, near one of the internal doorways, are a male flute player and a female harpist. Both figures were defaced by local Muslims, whose religion prohibits depictions of humans; the color image, from the 1905 lithographs, attempts to reconstruct how the musicians once looked.
