The surviving portion of the podium wall that ringed the amphitheater and separated the public from the arena was covered in plaster and decorated with floral designs, pictures of animals and a human image. The paintings were given new life thanks to the patient work of restorers such as the one shown above. The species depicted include elephant, rhinoceros, leopard, deer and fox.
