Like the roots of an ancient oak, the Stepped-Stone Structure is a massive edifice of interlocking walls and terraces constructed of rubble, packed soil, boulders and dressed masonry. As the largest Iron Age structure in Israel, it also stands at the center of the current debate about the nature of early Jerusalem.
