The ceramic vessels in the drawing provide a sample of the wide variety of pottery types found in the cave. The cave was unusually rich in early Roman period vessels; one-handled vessels were especially common. None of the pottery was found intact, however, leading excavators Gibson and James Tabor to conclude that it had all been deliberately and ritually smashed as part of a baptism rite.
