Lions Roar at the base of the Taanach cult stand, most likely standing as guardians. Two other lions appear two registers higher on the stand; all four, with mouths wide open and tongues hanging out amidst large teeth, resemble the lion on the house shrine discussed in the accompanying article. One of the most elaborate cult stands ever recovered from ancient Canaan, the Taanach cult stand dates to the late tenth century B.C.
