A delicate juglet, imported from Cyprus, survived in excellent condition at the Large-Stone Structure, indicating that the area did not suffer from a violent destruction. As at all excavations, pottery was crucial to dating the remains. Mazar has been able to detect three phases of construction of the Large-Stone Structure over less than two centuries, with the earliest dating to about the tenth century B.C.E.—when David would have ruled Israel’s United Monarchy from his palace in Jerusalem.
