The city of David, the oldest inhabited part of Jerusalem, rises from the lower left in this photo and runs north to the Temple Mount. The City of David straddles two valleys, the Kidron on the east and the Tyropoeon on the west; the Tyropoeon was much deeper in ancient times than it is today.
