The glowing cupola of the Dome of the Rock, rising to a height of 95 feet, is made of wood painted with a gold alloy (it is not plated). Sixty-five feet in diameter (the same size as the dome on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre), the dome rests on a cylinder that is supported by a circular arcade of four piers and 12 columns.
