Only fragments of the Halicarnassus monument are left at the site. Along the colonnade of the rectangular Mausoleum stood fluted Ionic columns, eleven on the long sides and nine on the short. They supported a pyramidal roof that led to the pinnacle: a platform with a four-horse chariot. Archaeologist Kristian Jeppesen, who excavated the site from 1966 to 1977, determined that the columns rested on a rectangular base measuring 84 by 104 feet.
