MAUSSOLLOS HIMSELF? Excavator Charles T. Newton of the British Museum identified this figure as Maussollos, but it was one of 66 statues or statue fragments rediscovered at Halicarnassus. Reconstructed from 74 pieces, the more-than-life-sized man was accompanied by a similarly sculpted woman, hypothesized to be Maussollos’s wife Artemisia, although that, too, is questioned.
