Sennacherib, King of Assyria, receives his minister who is attended by military officers after the Assyrians defeated the Israelites at Lachish in 701 B.C.E. Behind the king stand the king’s servants, clean-faced eunuchs, in contrast to the bearded officers and the king. The relief was mounted on a wall of the throne room in Sennacherib’s palace at Nineveh.
