LIVING IT UP AT THE DEAD SEA. The cosmetic industry sells a wide range of products derived from the Dead Sea, capitalizing on the therapeutic and medicinal benefits that the water, mud and atmosphere are believed to provide. Although the receding shoreline has forced formerly beachside hotels and resorts to take alternative measures—such as trolleys to cart their guests more than a kilometer to the shore—the tourist industry continues to draw crowds who still come to enjoy full-body mud masks and an effortless float in the buoyant waters of the Dead Sea.
