FLIGHT MOTIF. Perched proudly on the parapet of one of the Moussaieff naoi, a dove surveys the scene. Doves were considered the quintessential symbol of Tanit, the later Phoenician counterpart to the Canaanite goddess Asherah/Astarte, and can be found on numerous house shrines from the eastern Mediterranean region.
