A POWERFUL REMINDER. This small golden crucifix, measuring only 1 inch (2.5 cm) tall and 0.8 inches (2 cm) wide, likely belonged to a pilgrim of either the Byzantine or Crusader period who visited the Monastery of St. Samuel. The cross’s Latin inscription reads INRI, the shortened form of Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, or “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”
