Ephraim Stern, En-Gedi Excavations I: Final report (1961–1965)

In isolated splendor on a cliff high above the wadi floor sits a 5,500-year-old Chalcolithic temple complex that is enclosed by a well-preserved stone fence. The complex was entered through an impressive gatehouse. The courtyard inside features a mysterious circular installation. Opposite the gatehouse, on the other side of the courtyard is the broad-room temple with its semicircular shrine.
