Nude female goddesses once peered out of the windows of a clay altar. The fine workmanship and careful attention to detail contrast sharply with the city-gate altar found near the apiary. Although less than 1 percent of Tel Rehov has been excavated, altar fragments such as these have been found throughout the site, suggesting that hundreds of altars existed in this area in the tenth and ninth centuries B.C.E.
