A floor plan shows the synagogue’s three main sections—two large indoor halls divided by the central courtyard—and an adjacent small courtyard on the western end. Each section was outfitted with arks and raised platforms. The eastern hall served as a house of study and featured the “Cave of Elijah,” the ark that housed the treasured Aleppo Codex.
