CONSTRUCT OF BRICKS. The Aleppo Codex also set the layout for the poetry of the Hebrew Bible. In contemporary Torah scrolls and Hebrew Bibles, the Song of the Sea (Exodus 15), for example, is formatted in accordance with the model of the Aleppo Codex, the so-called “small brick over large brick” layout. Pictured is the version that appears in the Jewish Publication Society’s Hebrew Bible. The Song of the Sea section is, however, currently among the Aleppo Codex’s missing pages.
